The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) killed seven Palestinian journalists during the month. This was reported on February 9 by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, citing the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate.

A press release issued by the freedoms committee of the journalists' syndicate on Sunday said that January 2025 witnessed a dangerous escalation against the Palestinian media environment in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

"Occupation rockets targeted the homes and residences of journalists, killing seven of them, clearly targeting the truth that the occupation is trying to hide," the agency informed.

The statement added that nine members of the journalists' families were victims of assassinations, and about six houses of the journalists and their families were destroyed by Israeli army air missiles.

In addition, the freedoms committee documented six injuries among journalists as a result of rocket fragments in the Gaza Strip and bullets in the West Bank, as well as 15 cases of intimidation attacks against journalists.

Earlier, on December 26, 2024, five Palestinian journalists were killed in an Israeli strike on central Gaza. It is reported that the IDF attacked a vehicle belonging to the Palestinian TV channel Al-Quds near the gate of Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat Camp in the center of the Gaza Strip, killing five journalists.

Al Jazeera reported on December 17 that since the beginning of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the death toll has reached 45,028 Palestinians, with 106,962 wounded.

The situation in the Middle East escalated in the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
