U.S. President Donald Trump ordered to stop producing new pence as it costs more to make them than they are worth. This was reported on February 10 by Bloomberg news agency with reference to the post of the American leader in the social network Truth Social.

"The United States has been minting pennies that literally cost us more than 2 cents for far too long. It's so wasteful!" - he wrote.

Trump also announced that he had instructed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to stop issuing the one-cent coin depicting the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, as part of a larger effort to reduce waste in the national budget.

Bessent had earlier granted the team of American entrepreneur and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and entrepreneur Ilon Musk access to the federal payment system to monitor and limit government spending.

Prior to that, on January 31, Musk proposed to cut the United States budget spending by $4 billion a day to reduce the federal deficit in 2026. According to him, even such measures would reduce the budget deficit from $2 trillion to $1 trillion, but economic growth should match this figure, which in turn means no inflation in 2026.
