"Gray Neck": waterfowl were counted in Moscow's natural areas

Ecocenters of the Moscow Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection summed up the results of participation in the All-Russian action "Gray Neck - 2025". This is reported on Monday, February 10, on the portal of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

Within the framework of the action was held mid-winter accounting of waterfowl and waterfowl birds, which is widely held on the third weekend of January. In the natural areas of Moscow under the guidance of experienced ornithologists of eco-centers citizens mastered the technique of counting birds.

Thus, with the help of Moscow eco-centers in selective places counted 1.1 thousand birds. In addition to mallards, the duck census included a pair of red-headed mallards and four pairs of eagles, which for the first time remained to winter on the reservoirs of the park "Kuzminki".

Also in the ecocenter "Terletsky" held thematic classes "Duck Stories". The guests were able to learn many interesting facts about waterfowl of Moscow, species diversity, peculiarities of duck feeding and waterfowl counting.

In addition, a lot of valuable information was obtained by scientists who have been monitoring waterfowl on the territory of the capital for many years.

Earlier, on February 5, 573 species of animals, plants and fungi were included in the Red Book of Moscow. It is noted that the book prescribes measures to protect rare representatives of fauna and flora, as well as information about small species of birds, mammals, reptiles, fish, amphibians, invertebrate animals.
