An underwater drone is planning to examine the Chinese vessel AN YANG 2, which ran aground in Nevelsk, Sakhalin Region, for damage. This was reported on February 10 by the source of "Izvestia".

It is specified that Governor Valery Limarenko has ordered to use a marine drone, which the local Emergencies Ministry has, to investigate the bottom of the Chinese bulk carrier.

"Certain legal orders should be introduced for this, while we are waiting," the Izvestiya interlocutor added.

In the meantime, booms have begun to be installed near the vessel in order to prevent a possible spill of oil products

"In Nevelsk near the Chinese ship that ran aground, they began to install booms to prevent a possible spill of oil products. I keep the situation under my personal control, monitoring is carried out round the clock," the governor of the Sakhalin region informed in his Telegram channel.

A foreign cargo ship ran aground in Nevelsky district of Sakhalin region on February 8. It was reported that 20 people were on board the vessel.

According to the Izvestia source, the bulk carrier did not give a distress signal. The head of the region, Valery Limarenko, said that unfavorable weather conditions prevented rescue services from approaching it.

Later, the Eastern Interregional Investigative Directorate for Transport (EIDT) of Russia's Investigative Committee (IC) said investigators had begun to establish the circumstances of the accident.

Yulia Balykova, spokeswoman for the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport, noted that the AN YANG 2 was carrying 706 tons of fuel oil, which remained intact. She specified that the cargo bulk carrier was carrying 1,000 tons of coal and confirmed that there was no threat to the crew's life.
