Scholz advocated the creation of a "strong army" for Ukraine by the FRG

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that Germany should help Ukraine to build a strong army. He said this on February 9 during a debate with the candidate for the post of chancellor from the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) Friedrich Merz live on ZDF TV channel.
"I believe that we must help Ukraine build a strong army. After all, with its economy, it will not be able to finance an army on the scale it needs," Scholz said.
At the same time, he also emphasized the importance of guarantees, which European countries "should agree on among themselves".
On February 8, Scholz criticized Trump's plan for guarantees on Ukraine's minerals. He said, aid to Kiev should be provided without any conditions.
Earlier, on February 6, the media reported on the creation of UK marine drones for Ukraine. It could be about the Wasp and Snapper maritime drone programs, which were mentioned by UK Defense Minister John Healey.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
