Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told reporters on Sunday, Feb. 9, on the sidelines of a tour of several Asian countries that U.S. leader Donald Trump's proposal for the settlement of the Gaza Strip "does not deserve attention or discussion."

"From our point of view, there is nothing worthy of attention or discussion in the proposals regarding Gaza put forward by the new American administration under pressure from the Zionist lobby. These are all attempts to stir up the waters in Gaza," the president was quoted as saying by the ClashReport news portal on the X social network.

He added that the radical Palestinian movement Hamas "keeps its word."

Earlier, on February 5, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a meeting with Trump that Israel intends to destroy the Palestinian movement Hamas, return all Jewish hostages and eliminate the threat to the country from the Gaza Strip. The American leader, in turn, called Gaza a demolition site and suggested resettling Palestinians in Jordan, Egypt or other countries.

At the same time, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal noted that the Palestinian side opposes the US president's proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to Arab countries.

Later in the press conference, Trump said that the United States will take control of the Gaza Strip. At the same time, he specified that the state would own the territory and be responsible for its restoration, The New York Times (NYT) reported.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
