In Sri Lanka, a monkey severed transmission lines at an electrical substation, causing widespread power outages across the country. This was reported by JVP News on February 9.

"A monkey hit a transformer at a substation in Panadura, causing power cuts across the country," the publication quoted Power Minister Kumar Jayakody as saying.

The incident occurred at 11:30 local time (9:00 Moscow time). According to the Energy Minister, the animal damaged the grid transformer, its repair took several hours.

Later, the electricity supply in the whole territory of Sri Lanka was restored.

Earlier, on February 3, in the Czech town of Brdy in a landscape park, beavers erected a dam in a few days, saving the authorities the cost of $1.2 million, as well as seven years of construction. The animals had chosen a drainage channel for the construction, which was intended to drain the area and had been identified for construction by the authorities, but the beavers beat them to it.
