US President Donald Trump hopes that the United States Agency for Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by entrepreneur Ilon Musk, will find "wasted" billions of dollars in the Pentagon. He made the corresponding statement in an interview with Fox News journalist Brett Baier on February 9.

"I'm going to turn my attention to the military establishment. Let's audit our military to find billions, hundreds of billions of dollars wasted and missing because of fraud and abuse. That's what the people elected me to do," Trump said.

He noted that he trusted Musk to run the DOGE agency.

"I've asked him (Musk. - Ed.) to do that, and then I'm going to ask him to start audits at the Department of Education very soon, maybe 24 hours from now. He will find the same problems," summarized the US President.

Earlier, on February 7, Trump said that the new US administration would consider cutting military spending, among other things. He added that the country was losing trillions of dollars due to potentially illegal spending. According to the American leader, inspections of government agencies have revealed "a huge scale of corruption" and misuse of funds.

Before that, on February 3, Musk, who heads DOGE, announced the launch of a process to dismantle USAID. The billionaire noted that the agency was beyond recovery and should be shut down. At the same time, Trump called the heads of the agency radical madmen.

Bloomberg reported on February 5 that Musk's team gained access to the room where secret USAID documents are stored. In addition, more than 100 employees of the agency were placed on administrative leave.
