The foreign cargo ship AN YANG 2, which ran aground in the Nevelsky district of Sakhalin, has a damaged salt water compartment, which is necessary for the stability of the bulk carrier. This was reported in the press service of the Federal Agency for Marine and River Transport on February 9.
"Specialists examined the area where the vessel ran aground. Fuel spillage or other pollution of technical nature in the area of the bulk carrier was not found," - said in the Telegram-channel of Rosmorrechflot.
It is noted that when the weather improves, divers will also examine the part of the bulk carrier underwater for hidden damage.
"According to information from the captain, there are two holes in the ballast tanks, but no oil product leaks have been found," the Morspassluzhba specified, the agency's message TASS reports.
A foreign cargo ship ran ag round in the Nevelsky district of the Sakhalin region on February 8. It was reported that there were 20 people on board.
According to the Izvestiya source, the bulk carrier did not give a distress signal. The head of the region, Valery Limarenko, said that unfavorable weather conditions prevented rescue services from approaching it.
Later, the Eastern Interregional Investigative Directorate for Transport (EIDT) of Russia's Investigative Committee (IC) said investigators had begun to establish the circumstances of the accident.
Yulia Balykova, spokeswoman for the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport, noted that the AN YANG 2 was carrying 706 tons of fuel oil, which remained intact. She specified that the cargo bulk carrier was carrying 1,000 tons of coal and confirmed that there was no threat to the crew's life.
