Head of Baltiysk and his deputy arrested on suspicion of bribery


The head of the administration of the Balti city district, Sergei Melnikov, and his deputy, Maxim Kovalenko, have been remanded in custody in a bribery case. This was reported on February 9 in the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of Kaliningrad region.
It is noted that both suspects are arrested until April 7, 2025.
In addition, the press service of the Rosgvardia published footage of the detention of Melnikov and Kovalenko by the special rapid response unit (SOBR) "Viking" of the Rosgvardia and operatives of the local UMVD.
It was established that the deputy head of Baltiysk handed over to his boss about 575 thousand rubles for patronage and connivance in service.
The detention of the defendants in the case became known on February 8. It is noted that Melnikov is suspected of committing a crime under p. "c" part 5, part 5, article 290 of the Criminal Code ("Receiving a bribe on a large scale"), while Kovalenko is suspected of bribe transfer (paragraph "b" part 4, article 291 of the Criminal Code).
