"Spoiled" Banksy painting sold at auction in Saudi Arabia for $1.2 million

In Saudi Arabia, a painting by British street artist Banksy from the series Vandalized Oils ("Spoiled oil paintings") was bought at Sotheby's auction for $1.2 million, the auction house notified on its website on February 8.

It is noted that was sold a painting of landscape painter Albert Bierstadt "Mount Rainier", on which Banksy signed the phrase "Available only for a limited period of time".

This is how the artist emphasized the significance of natural objects against the background of their disappearance due to human activity.

In addition, at the auction in Saudi Arabia was sold several other works by famous artists. Thus, the painting "Waking State" by Belgian surrealist Rene Magritte went under the hammer for $1.2 million. Was presented and the work of Wassily Kandinsky called Pointillé - it managed to sell for $ 126 thousand Pablo Picasso's drawing Fleurs in turn sold for $ 204 thousand.

In August last year it was reported that Banksy's new painting, made on a satellite dish, was stolen a few hours after its creation. It was noted that the artist created his new work in the London neighborhood of Peckham, and the thieves simply carried it away in their hands in front of passersby.
