At the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad Region, booms have been installed around the fuel oil-laden tanker Koala, which had an explosion in the engine room. This was reported on February 9 in the press service of the Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transport.

"While preparing for the main engine according to preliminary data there was an explosion in the engine room, because of which the crew was forced to evacuate to the shore. <...> Boom barriers have been installed around the tanker, preparations are underway for the examination of the underwater part of the vessel," - said in the Telegram-channel of Rosmorrechflot.

It is noted that the cargo tanks of the tanker are not damaged, and there is no threat of flooding of the vessel at the moment. None of the crew members were not injured.

Earlier in the day it was reported that the tanker with 130 thousand tons of fuel oil on board was sinking in the port of Ust-Luga. Later, the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, said that the tanker had an engine failure, as a result of which the engine room was damaged. He noted that the vessel was moored at the berth and there was no threat of an oil spill.
