The foreign cargo ship AN YANG 2, which ran aground in the Nevelsky district of Sakhalin, was carrying 706 tons of fuel oil - it remained intact. Yulia Balykova, spokeswoman for the Federal Agency for Marine and River Transport, told Izvestia on February 9.

"There are 54 tons of diesel fuel and 706 tons of fuel oil on the ship in the form of marine fuel for the main engine. All stocks are in "suspended" tanks. There is nothing threatening the fuel. There are no traces of oil product spillage and water area pollution," she explained.

The spokeswoman specified that the cargo bulk carrier was carrying 1 thousand tons of coal. There is no threat to the life of the crew, all ship systems are in working order.

As noted by the Izvestia interlocutor, the cargo ship did not give a distress signal. The head of the region Valery Limarenko said that unfavorable weather conditions prevented rescue services from approaching it.

Later, the Eastern Interregional Investigation Directorate for Transport (EIDT) of Russia's Investigative Committee (IC) said that investigators had begun to establish the circumstances of the accident.
