About 10 Ukrainian border guards tried to escape from the Sverdlikov district in Kursk Region but came under fire from the Ukrainian Armed Forces' (AFU) barrier units. This was reported by TASS on February 9, citing Russian security forces.

The source also said that the AFU fighters mined the entrances to the village.
Last December, Ruslan Sychevsky, a soldier of the 17th tank brigade of the AFU, said that he had surrendered to the Russian army to meet his family in Kursk. He shared that employees of the territorial manning center (TCC, the equivalent of a military recruitment office in Ukraine) caught him on a Kharkiv street in August. The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
