- Zakharova said there was no aggreeman on the new Russian ambassador to the United States
Russia has long ago decided on the candidacy of the ambassador to the United States, but it has not yet received an aggreeman from Washington. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on February 9.
"As for the Russian ambassador, I can tell you absolutely clearly: there is a candidacy, the aggreeman for it has not yet been received," she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Earlier, on January 31, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that there is no progress on the aggreeman for the new Russian ambassador to the United States yet. According to him, without the ambassador, the diplomatic mission is not functioning properly as envisioned.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on December 25, 2024, that the candidacy of the new Russian ambassador to the United States has received approval in Washington.
Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov finalized his work in this post last October. In December, Moscow sent the US side a request for preliminary approval of the candidacy of the new ambassador. According to media reports, it could be the director of the Foreign Ministry's North America Department, Alexander Darkchiev, but the ministry did not comment on this information.
