Russian Permanent Representative in Geneva points to unusual behavior of US diplomats at UN meetings

The US delegation in Geneva is not engaging in polemics and has stopped being active at UN meetings, which is very different from their previous behavior. Gennady Gatilov, Russia's permanent representative to the UN office and other international organizations in Geneva, said on February 9.

"In many bodies they are not active at all, they just sit and listen, which is uncharacteristic of the US delegation," he told a TASS correspondent.

According to him, Russia used to engage in discussions with American representatives, defending its positions. However, now during the last several meetings the US representatives "have not been heard or seen at all".

He added that this situation is connected with the uncertainty of Washington's positions and its further action on the issue of the US withdrawal from the UN bodies.

Earlier, on December 4, 2024, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that the US had been abusing its powers since the first day of its presidency of the UN Security Council (UNSC). According to him, the US arbitrarily added a speaker from the White Helmets and it "does not care about the situation in Syria," which makes the country unworthy of the status of a permanent member of the UNSC.
