The Russian Consulate General in Antalya is working on the return to the Russian Federation of the girl, whom Russian Ekaterina Burnazkina gave birth to and left in the airport toilet in October 2024. This was announced by the Russian Consul General in Antalya Sergey Vetrik on February 9.
"The Consulate General issued Russian citizenship, birth certificate and passport to the child. We are assisting specialized Russian authorities in the work to return the little Russian girl to her homeland," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to Vetrik, the girl is still staying in Turkey. To solve such issues, it is necessary to fulfill the relevant procedures, which are still in process, the Russian consul general said.
In addition, the agency interlocutor noted that the situation is under control of Russian diplomats. Employees of the Consulate General in Antalya visit the child in the local shelter. She and her detained mother were given "necessary things," Vetrik added.
An 18-year-old Russian woman gave birth in a toilet at Antalya airport and abandoned the baby on October 14, 2024. The baby's life was saved by the fact that she was found 12 minutes after the incident. The next day a criminal case was opened against the mother on the fact of leaving the child in danger.
