The cardiovascular system in men and women works differently, so the signs of a heart attack can be radically different. Maria Dubinskaya, a cardiologist at Scandinavian Health Center, told about this on Sunday, February 9.

"The size of the heart in women is on average 25% smaller and the walls are thinner. Their vessels are smaller in diameter and length, which affects blood flow and responses to physical and emotional stress. At rest, women are more likely to have an elevated heart rate, while men have higher blood pressure," - said the cardiologist in conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".

The doctor explained that before menopause, the female body is protected by estrogens, which slow down the development of inflammatory processes in the blood vessels. However, after the age of 45, with the onset of hormonal changes, the situation changes: the risks of heart attacks and strokes in women increase.

That is why the classic picture of a heart attack with sharp pain in the chest is more common in men, and symptoms in women can be atypical - pain in the stomach, shortness of breath, nausea, increased fatigue. Such features can make diagnosis difficult.

Earlier, on January 30, were published the results of a study of the platform "Zen", according to which more than half of the surveyed Russians assess their stress level as average or above average. The most popular way to combat anxiety was watching or reading entertainment content.
