The increase in egg prices has affected consumers throughout the United States due to bird flu. This was reported by Izvestia correspondent Nikolai Masterov on February 9.
"Bird flu has gone beyond the poultry houses, now it affects new species of animals. Farmers are losing money and food prices are soaring," he reported
It is specified that in Nevada in the past week the disease was transmitted to cows. The consequence of the epidemic was reduced supplies and higher prices. Back in December 2024 a dozen eggs cost $3.5 (~339 rubles), and now - already $7 (~680 rubles).
"I was lucky today. I will pay $7.5 (~727 rubles. - Ed.) for fresh farm eggs," commented Masterov.
Earlier, on February 7, it was reported that stores in the United States introduced restrictions on the purchase of eggs amid shortages. It is specified that in the supermarket chain Lidl one customer can buy only two packages of eggs in order to "ensure fair distribution".
Before that, on February 5, CNN reported that in the state of Pennsylvania unknown persons stole about 100 thousand chicken eggs from a cargo trailer amid their deficit and inflation. The total damage is estimated at $40 thousand.
