Iran and Morocco ostracize plan to resettle Palestinians from Gaza

Morocco and Iran at the highest level reaffirmed the common position of both states on not accepting the plan to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. The Hespress news website reported on February 8.
"Fouad Hussein, Iraqi foreign minister, reaffirmed his country's support for Morocco's sovereignty and territorial integrity amid a consensus between the two countries to reject the plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza," the portal reported.
Also, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita emphasized that Baghdad and Rabat "have an identical position on this issue." He said that "the Kingdom [of Morocco] under the leadership of King Mohammed VI always supports Palestinian unity and the establishment of a Palestinian state."
"Morocco and Iraq agree that the plan to push the Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip is rejected," Fouad Hussein said in turn.
He also added that the plan is "very dangerous" and could also lead to difficulties for Egypt and Jordan, which could potentially host refugees.
A day earlier, on February 7, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke out against US President Donald Trump's plan to resettle Palestinians from Gaza. According to him, everything possible should be done to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
Earlier, on February 4, Trump said that it would be better to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to more livable places. He told reporters that a hypothetical resettlement could take place in Egypt or Jordan, two countries that have repeatedly rejected the idea of accepting large numbers of Palestinian refugees.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas launched a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip into Israel. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
