A journalist of the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Alberto Rojas, illegally entered Kursk Region, where he communicated with fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) who attacked the region. This is reported on February 8 on the website of the publication.

The publication says that Rojas, accompanied by Ukrainian military, left the city of Sumy and illegally crossed the Russian border.

According to the journalist, he went to the Kursk region to communicate with members of the 47th brigade of the AFU. He also noted that he interviewed Ukrainian military men Yuri, Anton and Petro.

Earlier, on February 6, Kursk court arrested two journalists from the United States in absentia for illegal border crossing. According to the court, coming from the Ukrainian territory, Fletcher and Catherine entered Russia to shoot a report on the invasion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) in Sujansky district of Kursk region on August 6, 2024.

Prior to that, on January 29, it was reported that the Leninsky District Court of Kursk sent in absentia to the arrest of British citizen Jerome Starkey, who illegally entered the region to film a report on the invasion of militants. Starkey is on a federal and international wanted list.

Back in August 2024, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Russian Federation controls every situation with the illegal entry of Western journalists into Russian territory. She reminded that foreign media employees can visit Russia only after receiving accreditation from the ministry and the appropriate type of visa.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the AFU units that invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
