A British politician commented on the withdrawal of the Baltic States from BRELL

David Curtin, leader of the British Heritage Party, said that Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, by withdrawing from the unified energy system of Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (BRELL), had struck a blow to themselves. He said in the social network X (former Twitter) on February 8.
"The Baltic states are punching themselves in their own faces," Kerten wrote.
Earlier in the day, the Russian post mission to the EU said that the Baltic States' withdrawal from BRELL was political in nature. It specified that the costs will be incurred primarily by European households and businesses in the Baltic States.
The BRELL electric ring is an association of the energy system of Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. In November 2024, the operators of the power systems of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia officially notified Russia and Belarus of their withdrawal from the common BRELL power system by February 8, 2025.
The Baltic countries' power systems are scheduled to join the continental European Synchronous Area on February 9, 2025.
