TheUnited States will have to explain itself in case of deployment of weapons in space. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on February 8.

She informed that Russia would follow the US position on the deployment of weapons and proceed from its principled assessments.

"As for the US position, we are hearing a lot of things now. If the whole story goes in this direction, then, perhaps, they will also need to explain themselves somehow, because they literally recently also seemed to say that it is not worth building up weapons, its potential in space," she told "RIA Novosti".

Earlier, on January 28, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on the creation of the US missile defense system "Iron Dome". The purpose of this development is to prevent the threat of attack by ballistic, hypersonic and cruise missiles on the States. The document was signed on an airplane en route from Florida, where Trump was speaking at the convention of the Republican party caucus in Congress.

The system would be responsible for defense across the country. The text of the document says the defense secretary must provide the president with a "reference architecture" and an "implementation plan" for the project within 60 days of the date of the executive order.

At the same time, retired military expert Colonel Viktor Litovkin told Izvestia that the US has virtually no missile defense system (BMD) and the state has no chance of creating Iron Dome in the coming years. Litovkin said that the US has a joint air defense system with Canada. However, he noted, this system is ineffective because it only protects the country from missiles from the north.
