A foreign cargo ship ran aground in the Nevelsky District of the Sakhalin Region. This was reported on February 8 by the Crisis Management Center of the Russian Emergencies Ministry's regional administration.

"We received information that south of the port of Nevelsk ran aground a foreign cargo ship," - informed the press service in the Telegram-channel of the department.

It is specified that there are 20 crew members on board the vessel. Fuel spillage is not observed.

Earlier, on January 29, the owner of the "Volgoneft-239" announced the intentional grounding of the tanker on the shoal. The crew of the vessel made such a decision in order to possibly prevent the spillage of fuel oil, which remained in the tanks after the wreck. In addition, this contributed to saving the lives of the crew members.
