Finland reported the repair of a broken cable by a Russian ship

A Russian cable broke off in the Gulf of Finland. This was reported by the Finnish Coast Guard on February 8.
"The Gulf of Finland Coast Guard is monitoring the implementation of the law and the conditions of use of the exclusive economic zone, where a Russian vessel is now repairing a broken Russian cable," the agency said in a post on the social network X (former Twitter).
Ilya Ilyin, deputy commander of the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard, told Yle that the Russian Federation had informed the service about the incident and the need to carry out work in the exclusive economic zone.
It is not specified which cable is to be repaired and why it was severed.
Earlier, in November 2023, Rostelecom's Russian telecommunications cable Baltica, which connects St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad, was damaged in the Gulf of Finland. At that time, the cable damage did not affect the operation of the communications infrastructure and provision of services to users in the Kaliningrad region.
