Oncology surgeon Mikhail Davydov has died at the age of 77

Oncologist-surgeon, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Mikhail Davydov died in his 78th year of life. This was reported in the press service of the National Medical Research Center of Oncology named after N. N. Blokhin on February 8.

"From a severe prolonged illness died Mikhail Ivanovich Davydov - a highly talented clinician and talented surgeon. Mikhail Ivanovich was also a great teacher," the publication said.

Davydov began his work at the Blokhin Center after graduating from Sechenov University in 1975 as a resident. In 2001, he became the head of the country's largest cancer center and was in the position of director until 2017.

The oncologic surgeon made a huge contribution to the formation and development of the school of oncologic surgery in Russia. His scientific and practical activities were aimed at developing new and improving existing methods of surgical treatment of patients diagnosed with tumors of the lungs, esophagus, stomach and mediastinum.

The academician was the first to perform the most complicated operations with plasty and prosthetics of hollow veins, pulmonary arteries and aorta. In addition, Davydov, together with Academician Achkurin, laid the foundations of cardiac surgery and transplantology in cancer patients, which expanded the possibilities of cancer treatment.
