Elections to the Moldovan parliament are the only chance to change the situation in the country. This was stated by Vlad Batrincea, deputy speaker of the Moldovan parliament from the opposition Party of Socialists, on February 8.

According to him, it is important for the opposition representatives to act "in a united spirit." Besides, Batryncha noted that joint actions of the opposition forces should be in line with the interests of the state.

"Our common goal is a political change of power. Parliamentary elections are the last chance to change the situation in the country," the deputy speaker of the Moldovan parliament wrote in his Telegram channel.

Earlier, on November 4, 2024, Maya Sandu won the presidential election with 55.33% of votes. The opposition bloc "Victory" announced that it would overturn the results of the presidential election because Sandu won thanks to fraud at foreign polling stations. Also, the Party of Communists of Moldova and the Party of Socialists did not recognize the legitimacy of Sandu's power. Nevertheless, the Constitutional Court of the country on November 28 approved Sandu's victory.

The next day, the Party of Socialists initiated a vote of no confidence in the government of the republic because of the energy crisis, which, in its opinion, was caused by the failed policy of the Cabinet of Ministers. The political force then considered it necessary to hold early parliamentary elections.

Parliamentary elections in Moldova should be held no later than July 11 this year. They will elect 101 MPs on party lists.

According to preliminary polls, the ruling Action and Solidarity party, founded by Sandu, is in the lead. However, it may lose the absolute majority achieved in 2021. The results of the presidential election and the referendum on EU membership in 2024 showed minimal support for the current pro-Western course of the country.

The leading opposition forces in Moldova are the Party of Socialists and Ilan Shor's Victory bloc, which hold about a third of the seats in the current parliament. The opposition "Our Party" can also overcome the five-percent barrier.
