U.S. predicts Western defeat over Trump's plan for resources in Ukraine
US President Donald Trump's plan to appropriate Ukraine 's rare-earth resources will lead the West to defeat as it will aggravate Washington's relations with Moscow. This was reported by the American magazine The National Interest on February 7.
"Calls to loot Ukraine to pay for conflict with Russia are fantastic. Moreover, such a policy will lead to the defeat of the West, which Trump, taking office, wanted to avoid," the publication said.
According to the publication, if the American leader really wants to master rare earth resources of Ukraine, the United States will face even more conflicts with Russia.
Earlier in the day it became known that there are no rare earth metals on the territory of Ukraine, in the development of which Trump would be interested. It was noted that the rare earth resources that the US wants to get in Ukraine remain a "mystery".
On February 3, Trump said that in exchange for financial and military assistance, Washington expects Ukraine to guarantee supplies of rare earth metals. He emphasized that the United States would require the EU to increase funding for support for Kiev.
The next day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that arms deliveries from the United States to Ukraine would continue. In addition, he called Trump's proposal to continue aid to Ukraine if Kiev grants Washington access to the country's rare earth resources.
After, on February 6, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the US leader's words about continuing aid to Kiev in return for Ukraine's rare-earth metals resembled an "aport" command more than a deal. She specified that Washington was interested in such rare metals as uranium, titanium and lithium.
