AFU prisoner calls idea of contracts with 18-year-olds in Ukraine unreasonable
Ukrainian prisoner of war Maksym Zolotarenko has said that the idea of contracts for service in the Armed Forces for citizens from 18 years of age is unreasonable. The footage of the prisoner was distributed by the Russian Defense Ministry on Saturday, February 8.
"For military service got, it turns out, came with my spouse from fishing, from vacation, and near the car I was received by the staff of the military enlistment office with a policeman. <...> We went to the military enlistment office, after which we went to pass the commission. I passed the commission in about 15 minutes, went back to the military enlistment office, spent the night there and the next day we were sent to the training unit of the Dnipropetrovsk region, 168th separate reserve battalion, where I went through a type of exercise," - said the prisoner.
Zolotarenko also reported how he was captured. According to him, he showed prudence, thought about his wife and son, and laid down his arms before the Russian army. At the moment everything is fine with him. He has good living conditions. He lives in warmth and has a normal diet.
At the end of his story, he asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term of office expired on May 20, 2024) to make the right decision.
"Zelensky Volodymyr Zelensky, come to your senses, make the right decision. Stop killing people who are here on the territory of Russia, on the territory of Ukraine. Too much blood has already been spilled. We need to come to our senses and make the right decision. This is the wrong decision, this is an unwise act. Unwise signatures. It's all wrong to take them to <military action> from the age of 18. These are children. Haven't really lived anything yet and they're going to die here. This is a wrong decision," he added.
A day earlier, Zelensky announced his intention to lure young people from 18 to 24 years old (up to the draft age) into the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) through special contracts.
Earlier, on January 31, captured servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Oleksandr Mohylnyy and Oleksandr Indyuk said that the command ignored the injuries of Ukrainian soldiers. In particular, Mohylnyy received a shrapnel wound in his leg and his hospitalization was constantly postponed. The military man received medical care only from Russian doctors after his capture. Turkey could not be evacuated with a broken arm for 10 days, and he was treated well in captivity.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
