In the urban-type settlement of Okhotsk, Khabarovsk Krai, two children of five and seven years fell under the ice of the water reservoir for cooling of the power plant and drowned. This was reported on February 8 by the press service of the Prosecutor's office of Khabarovsk Krai in Telegram-channel.

"Yesterday, February 7, two boys of five and seven years old, living in the settlement of Okhotsk, went out for a walk and did not return home. In connection with the prolonged absence of children, search and rescue activities were organized. Late in the evening of the same day, the bodies of the minors without signs of life were found in a pond near the power plant. Their death was confirmed," the agency said in a statement.

At the moment it has been established that the children were playing near the reservoir, but then decided to go out on the ice and fell under it.

"The supervisory agency has organized an inspection, during which an assessment will be given to the activities of officials of the power plant and the local government, including taking measures to exclude access to the reservoir," - also stated in the prosecutor's office.

In addition, there will also be an inspection of compliance with the law by the bodies and institutions of the system of prevention of child neglect and juvenile delinquency.

To clarify all the circumstances, the prosecutor of the Okhotsk district Alexei Kuznetsov went to the scene of the tragedy.

A criminal case under part 3 of article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by negligence to two or more persons") has been instituted. It is under control of the prosecutor's office.

On January 30 rescuers lifted the bodies of two fishermen who fell through the ice from the bottom of Baikal. Emergency services found the place of the fall 70 meters from the shore near Ulan-Khada cape, and at a depth of 6 meters and the car with the men in the cabin. Six rescuers and two units of equipment of the Baikal search and rescue team of the Ministry of Emergency Situations worked at the site.

Earlier, on January 9, in the Leningrad region, a man fell through the ice and drowned in a fire-fighting pond. According to preliminary data, the deceased was drunk at the time of the incident.
