CNN confused Obama with bin Laden on live television
CNN used an image with the name "Obama bin Laden" on the air. This was reported by the Daily Mail newspaper on February 7.
The anchor Boris Sanchez was showing a story about the transfer of illegal migrants to the Guantanamo Bay detention center. When he raised the issue of the treatment of Abu Zubaydah, an associate of Osama bin Laden, the longest held in U.S. captivity in the war on terrorism, text appeared on the screen with the criminal's name changed: "Obama bin Laden ally: Abu Zubaydah."
It is pointed out that the TV channel did not mention the confusion of the name of the organizer of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 with the name of the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama.
Some social media users seriously speculated that the mistake was made on purpose.
The Daily Mail links the incident to major job cuts at the channel as CNN's ratings are plummeting. At the same time, CEO Mark Thompson is trying to get rid of the network's liberal image.
Earlier, on January 28, US President Donald Trump rejoiced at the ratings problems of CNN journalist Jim Acosta and insulted the reporter in a post on the Truth Social network.
Prior to that, on January 23, CNBC said that CNN will announce the reduction of hundreds of employees due to the reorientation of activities to the online audience.
