The media have named the cause of David Lynch's death
American director, screenwriter and actor David Lynch died due to cardiac arrest, which was a consequence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). About it on Friday, February 7, reported the tabloid TMZ with reference to the death certificate of the director.
"A document from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health lists David's immediate cause of death as cardiac arrest <...> with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as a related condition," the publication reported.
The document also states that another significant factor that contributed to the lethality of the situation was dehydration of the body.
January 29, it became known that David Lynch will be posthumously awarded the award of the Writers Guild of the United States (WGA) for a significant contribution to the screenwriting art of cinema. The award is presented to WGA members who "have made an outstanding contribution to the development of film literature and the screenwriting profession."
Lynch's career began with short animated and feature films. In 1977, he directed his debut feature-length motion picture, The Elbow Head. The most popular works of the American director are the TV series "Twin Peaks" and the films "Highway to Nowhere", "Blue Velvet" and "Mulholland Drive". Lynch was honored with a special award at the 2007 Independent Spirit Awards and a Golden Lion at the 2006 Venice Film Festival.
In recent years, Lynch has struggled with a serious illness - pulmonary emphysema. Earlier the director admitted that he could not live without an oxygen mask. On January 16, 2025, the American edition of Variety reported that the director and screenwriter died at the age of 78. Until his 79th birthday, he did not live a few days.
