Phone scammers can often be recognized by special phrases and scenarios that they resort to during a conversation with a victim. Artemiy Ponomarev, product director of SberMobile, toldGazeta.Ruon February 8.

As one of the most common tricks, the expert calls messages about winning the lottery.

"Especially this scenario is popular during the New Year holidays, when many Russians play the lottery, often the whole family. Fraudsters ask to pay a certain fee - a percentage of the winnings. As a rule, they ask you to transfer the amount by details or phone number," Ponomarenko warned lottery fans.

The second popular way to deceive Russians is to play out a scenario about "malfunctions with the router" at the victim.

"This is not the most obvious scheme, because in this case the scammers do not ask to dictate their bank card password or other sensitive data. <...> The conversation asks them to install a program or give you access to your device. As a result, this can give fraudsters access to devices within the local network. Then they can take over the information on your laptop, steal your data and access your bank cards," the expert said.

He also reminded that neither bank nor government officials will never ask to provide personal data over the phone or persuade you to transfer money to someone else's details. If you suspect that the person on the other end of the wire is not who he or she claims to be, it is better to interrupt the conversation and contact the organization or agency yourself through verified communication channels.

A third popular method of scammers involves a whole series of calls and usually begins with an offer to 'sign up for a fluorography' or a notice about 'checking meters.

' Neither is the most obvious situation, as, at first glance, everything looks pretty harmless. You are sent an ordinary SMS with a code, you give it to the scammers, and then they pretend that they forgot to turn off the microphone and begin to tell someone in the background that "access to 'Gosuservices' has been obtained, you can apply for a loan." The victim reacts, the scammers quickly end the conversation, supposedly realizing that they have been caught in a lie. A few minutes later, the victim's cell phone receives a call allegedly from the FSB - they say they are aware of the situation and offer help. During the conversation they intimidate you with the phrases "there is a criminal case against you", "do not inform anyone about this, otherwise your relatives will suffer". The goal is to lure money out of you under the pretext of transferring them to a "safe account" to solve the situation," said Ponomarenko.

According to him, at all stages of work with the victim, fraudsters resort to methods of social engineering. They specifically select phrases like "we want to help you" or "this is confidential information," which create a sense of seriousness of what is happening and encourage them to act without thinking.

February 7, the prosecutor's office told about a case when a Nigerian man swindled five Russian women out of more than 9 million rubles. The man got acquainted with women through social networks and created the appearance of romantic relationships.

Earlier, on January 23, a resident of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk gave more than 1.2 million rubles to fraudsters. The swindlers first introduced themselves as employees of the Social Fund, and then - of the Central Bank. A criminal case under part 1 of article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal access to computer information") has been initiated.

On January 24, a criminal case was initiated against two Moscow teenagers for defrauding a pensioner of 6 million rubles. They called the woman and persuaded her to transfer her savings to them, as well as to take a loan on the security of her apartment. A measure of restraint in the form of house arrest and a ban on certain actions has been chosen against the defendants.
