In the Vatican's St. Peter's Basilica, a vandal climbed on the altar and damaged ancient candelabras. This was reported by the Corriere della Sera newspaper on Friday, February 7.

According to the newspaper, the man got under the bronze canopy by Gianlorenzo Bernini and started throwing candelabras and cloth covers on the floor.

The basilica guards stopped the hooligan and escorted him to the Vatican gendarmerie office. The attacker was a 40-year-old Romanian citizen. From his actions were damaged six candelabras. The cost of the damaged products in the sum of € 30 thousand.

Earlier, on September 12, unknown persons poured paint on the monument to Barclay de Tolly in Riga. The monument to Barclay de Tolly was erected in the Latvian capital in 1913 on the occasion of the anniversary of the war against Napoleon. It was lost during World War I, and the Riga City Council decided to erect a restored copy of it only in 2002.
