Zakharova called Zelensky's statements about special contracts part of the zinc deal
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy 's statements (his term expired on May 20, 2024) about military contracts fit into a zinc deal. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said this on February 8.
She recalled that the day before Zelensky, in order to make up for losses in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), announced the preparation of special contracts for military service for citizens from 18 to 24 years old.
"Part of the deal on rare earth metal - zinc," she wrote in her Telegram channel.
On this day, Zelensky announced plans to lure 18-year-olds to the AFU with "favorable contracts." He said there would be a special contract, lots of preferences and very high monetary support.
On February 5, NBC News reported that Ukraine 's rare earth metals are needed for the United States to reimburse all the costs it has incurred to help Kiev, NSN reported.
The article recalled that US President Donald Trump is ready to help Ukraine financially, but in return he wants the country's rare earth metals, RT reports.
Earlier, on February 4, Yulia Davydova, associate professor of the Department of Political Analysis and Social and Psychological Processes at Plekhanov Russian Economic University, said that lithium and titanium deposits in Ukraine could be of significant interest to the US industry and Trump. According to her, the Ukrainian territory has such metals as scandium, vanadium and beryllium.
On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that arms deliveries from the US to Ukraine will continue. In addition, he called Trump's proposal to continue aid to Ukraine if Kiev grants Washington access to the country's rare earth resources.
Prior to that, on February 3, Trump said that in exchange for financial and military assistance, Washington expects Ukraine to guarantee supplies of rare earth metals. He emphasized that the United States would require the EU to increase funding for Kiev's support.
