Trump announced the US administration's plans to cut military spending
The new US administration will consider reducing, among other things, military spending. This was stated by American President Donald Trump on Friday, February 7.
"We're going to evaluate the Department of Education. We're going to look at even our military. We're going to look at huge amounts of money being spent on things that have nothing to do with anything and have no value," he said at a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at the White House.
Trump also said the U.S. is losing trillions of dollars through potentially illegal spending. He said audits of government agencies have uncovered "enormous amounts of corruption" and misuse of funds. He noted that the investigation was conducted on his personal initiative.
On January 20, the White House website published Trump's executive order suspending Washington's development aid to other countries for 90 days. Later, on January 25, Reuters reported that USAID froze programs to support foreign countries, including Ukraine, following a State Department dispatch approved by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Later, on February 3, Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), announced that he had launched a process to dismantle USAID. The billionaire noted that this agency is not recoverable, it should be closed. At the same time, Trump called the heads of the agency radical madmen.
The Bloomberg agency reported on February 5 that Musk's team gained access to the room where the secret documents of USAID are stored. In addition, more than 100 employees of the agency have been placed on administrative leave.
The next day, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban welcomed the Trump administration's decision to terminate USAID. The head of the government noted that it was the agency that funded the ultra-progressive Politico newspaper and most of Hungary's leftist publications.
