Early elections for the governor of the Novgorod Region will be held in September

Early gubernatorial elections in Novgorod Region will be held on a single day of voting in September 2025. This was announced by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova on February 7.

"Early elections of the Novgorod Region governor will be held on a single voting day," she told TASS.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree dismissing Novgorod Region Governor Andrei Nikitin from office. Since February 13, 2017, he held the post of acting head of the region, and on October 14 of the same year he officially took office as governor.

Later, the press service of the Russian government said that Nikitin was appointed deputy minister of transportation of the country. The ex-governor of the Novgorod region specified that he would fulfill the new tasks responsibly.

The post of Deputy Minister of Transportation became vacant due to the dismissal of Dmitry Bakanov - the day before he was appointed head of Roscosmos instead of Yuri Borisov.
