A doctor told the symptoms of an epilepsy attack
During an epilepsy attack, brain function is disturbed. A person loses the ability to objectively assess what is happening, to speak, to plan actions. Vasily Nogovitsyn, MD, neurologist and epileptologist at the European Medical Center (EMC), told "Izvestia" on February 10.
"In epilepsy, nerve cells generate excessive electrical activity that interferes with the normal transmission of nerve impulses," Nogovitsyn explained.
According to him, myoclonic seizures are characterized by shudders of any parts of the body. Consciousness may be preserved. In addition, turning the head or moving the gaze to the side, raising and straining one of the hands, repetitive lip movements are also signs of the beginning of an epilepsy attack.
"Unfortunately, epileptic seizures most often occur unexpectedly, although some patients can anticipate them, especially if they have experienced them before. The most important thing during the onset of a seizure is to have time to take a safe position. If a person sits or lies down, it will help to avoid injuries," summarized Nogovitsyn.
Last year, in March, neurologist Olga Golubinskaya named erroneous actions in epilepsy. According to her, during epilepsy attacks, patients should not be given pills or put a spoon in their mouths. She explained that during an epilepsy attack there is a clamping of the mouth, and a person can choke on a pill. In addition, the patient should not put a spoon in the mouth because it can break the teeth due to muscle spasms, and it will not do anything to improve the condition.
