Despite the alliance between the United States and NATO, the alliance should spend more money on defense. United States Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said on February 7.

"We're traveling to Europe next week for a NATO ministerial meeting to talk to our friends who have been and will continue to be our allies. But we also need to encourage them to continue to take steps forward in spending on their industrial base," Hegseth was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Earlier, on January 21, US President Donald Trump said he would push NATO member states to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP. The head of state drew attention to the fact that Washington has spent $200 billion more on assistance to Kiev than other members of the bloc, and it is time for them to "equalize the situation".
