A resident of Magadan transferred more than 17 million rubles to fraudsters. This was reported by the Kolyma police on February 7.

The woman said that in December 2024 she was in her apartment in Anapa, when she received a call from a stranger via messenger, introducing himself as an employee of Energosbyt. He said that it was necessary to replace the meter.

After the pensioner agreed, she received an SMS code to register in the electronic queue, which she gave to the fraudster. She then received a message about signing a general power of attorney and a recommendation to call back to the Roskomnadzor number if she had not performed such actions.

Later, the woman received another call via messenger, this time the "Roskomnadzor employee" informed her that a general power of attorney had been executed in her name, which allowed a certain person from an unfriendly state to dispose of her finances and property.

The specialist assured the pensioner that Central Bank employees would contact her to re-register the property. As a result, the woman was persuaded to sell her apartment for 17 million rubles and transfer the money to a "safe" account.

"The investigator of the OMVD of Russia for the city of Magadan initiated a criminal case on the signs of a crime under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud")", - stated in the Telegram-channel of the department.

Earlier, on February 1, in St. Petersburg, 81-year-old pensioner became a victim of swindlers. Fraudsters contacted the elderly man by phone and introduced themselves as employees of the FSB and the Central Bank. They forced the victim to hand over more than 3 million rubles to the courier. A criminal case has been opened under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud committed by an organized group or on a particularly large scale").
