AFU lost 50 armored vehicles during failed counteroffensive in Kursk region
Ukrainian troops in Kursk Region have suffered large-scale losses while attempting to launch a counteroffensive, which was successfully repulsed by Russian forces. The enemy lost 50 armored vehicles and more than 200 fighters. The tactics of the Russian fighters were described by Izvestia correspondent on February 7.
It is noted that the Ukrainian militants tried several times to go on the assault and did not expect an impressive repulse from the Russian military. As a result, when they were fired upon, instead of scattering and taking cover in the forest belt, they grouped together and were surrounded by Russian motorized riflemen.
"They held on until the thaw. Until we definitely approached them. They had already said, 'We surrender,' and we took them prisoner," one of the fighters told a reporter.
This is the largest-scale counterattack by the AFU in the Kursk region in recent months. Seeking to break through the Russian front, the militants used two mechanized battalions, while BMPs, tanks and mine-clearing vehicles came in directly from Sumy, bypassing Sudzha.
"They wanted to simultaneously expand their zone of control in the Sujansky district, come to our rear, and cut off our units that had successfully crossed the Psel River and were continuing their advance there. That is, they wanted to fulfill three tasks. But so far they have decided only one - they reduced the number of their personnel and the number of armored vehicles", - said an officer of the 810th Marine Brigade with the call sign Botsman.
Black Sea, Kamchatka and Caspian marines, Buryat paratroopers, volunteer units "Arbat" and "Veterans", special forces "Akhmat" and UAV operators from the Rubicon center participated in repelling the attack.
The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
