A new drawbridge across the Neva River will start construction in spring 2025 as part of the Shirotnaya highway of high-speed traffic (SHMSD). This was announced by St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov in his Telegram channel on February 6.

"It will be built next to the Finland railroad bridge, which is a monument of regional importance. That's why we designed the new bridge taking into account the maximum preservation of the view of the historic railroad crossing," he wrote.

Beglov noted that they minimized the construction height of the spans. In addition, the draw span was made in the form of a single-wing opening system.

Each of the spans will rise as an independent structure for each direction of traffic.

Earlier, on January 29, in honor of the Chinese New Year in St. Petersburg, the Palace Bridge was unfurled and illuminated red in the color of the Chinese flag. At the same time, the ceremony of raising the bridge was broadcasted on China Central Television.
