Demand for vacations abroad has sharply increased in Russia

The demand of Russians for vacations abroad in January 2025 has increased by 40%. This was reported on Thursday, February 6, experts of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (RST).
According to analysts, the demand of Russians for vacations abroad began to recover after several months of falling interest, reports Lenta.Ru. currently recorded a significant increase in early booking compared to 2024. In particular, Russian travelers are actively buying tours for New Year holidays 2025-2026.
In January this year, the most popular destination was the Maldives, which was visited by 13% of tourists. Maldives is followed by Morocco (11.5%), Kyrgyzstan (10%), Turkey (9%), Georgia (8%), as well as Sri Lanka (6%). The inflow of tourists to these countries was provided by comfortable weather conditions in winter, as well as the variety of offers.
Meanwhile, as experts note, Russians still more often prefer domestic tourism: 65% choose to vacation in Russia and only 35% - abroad.
On February 5, it was reported that Kaliningrad entered the top ten popular tourist destinations for trips in February. The rating was headed by Moscow (13% of apartment bookings), the second place was occupied by St. Petersburg (11%). Closes the top three leaders Sochi (5%), reports NSN.
