Britain's chief feline "diplomat" has found a job in Bermuda

Palmerston the cat, the former "chief mouser" in the British Foreign Office, is now Britain's chief four-legged representative in Bermuda. This was reported by the Associated Press on February 6.
After retiring, Palmerston was "adopted" by Foreign Office diplomat Andrew Murdoch, who has now been appointed governor of Bermuda, a tiny British territory in the Atlantic Ocean.
"Diplomacy and the 'purr-fect' post lured me out of retirement. I had just started work as a cat liaison consultant to the new governor of Bermuda. I've been busy meeting some very welcoming Bermudians," Palmerston said on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
The post also said the cat "will only attend meetings he deems important, giving advice when necessary and indulging in a well-deserved nap."
Palmerston, named after Britain's longest-serving foreign secretary Lord Palmerston, arrived in the government in April 2016 as a rescue cat. Foreign Office staff treated him with affection and pelted him with treats in return for dead mice. He had a less than smooth "diplomatic relationship" with Larry the cat in nearby Downing Street. They were sometimes seen fighting in the street outside the British Prime Minister's home.
Meanwhile, Larry continues to be the "chief mouser" of the Cabinet - a position he has held since 2011 under six prime ministers.
