Russians will buy a record number of tablets in 2024
In 2024, about 3.1 million tablet PCs will be sold in Russia - 22% more than a year earlier, the united retailer M.Video-Eldorado has calculated. The data were reviewed by Izvestia on February 6.
For the Russian market this is an absolute record, the company emphasizes. According to its assessment, the top brands in piece terms included Huawei, Honor, Samsung, Redmi and Apple.
"The best-selling devices in unit terms were the 256GB and 128GB Redmi Pad SE, the 64GB iPad 2021 and the 128GB Honor PAD X9," the retailer said.
Unlike almost all other portable electronics, prices for tablets in 2024 did not increase: their average cost, as in 2023 amounted to 20.3 thousand rubles.
Tablets are becoming more functional and powerful, which allows you to solve more and more work tasks. Also last year, almost all manufacturers updated their lines of devices, including in the affordable segment. In addition, the ecosystem is growing. Consumers have started to choose tablets of the same brand more often with a smartphone for ease of use," MTS noted.
The best-selling brand in Russia remained Huawei, which occupies 14% of the market, specified Marvel Distribution.
The greatest progress was shown by Honor, which has almost doubled its share for the year from 6.4% to 11%. In general, Chinese manufacturers continue to strengthen their positions. Also in the top five in 2024 were Redmi (10%), Samsung (10%) and Apple (8%). In 2023, the top 5 sales looked like this: Huawei (16.3%), Samsung (13.2%), Apple (10.8%), Honor (6.4%), Lenovo (6.2%), - noted in the company.
Russian tablet brands, such as Fplus, Digma, Irbis, BQ and others, collectively took about 13% of the market by the end of 2024 - year-on-year their share decreased by 4%, Marvel Distribution added.
Tablets are not becoming more expensive, unlike other computer equipment and portable electronics, market participants note. Thus, on average, the prices for laptops in Russia in 2024 compared to 2023 increased by 15%, Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group, told Izvestia. By comparison, smartphones went up in price by 16%, desktops - by 21%, he noted. But these figures are less than, for example, for large household appliances, the expert said.
"A rather aggressive marketing policy of Chinese manufacturers plus the release of the new Apple iPad Mini stimulated the growth of demand for tablets. Tablets such as the iPad Mini are very well suited for children who are uncomfortable using larger and heavier devices," said Content-Review project manager Sergei Polovnikov.
Last year, on December 17, experts told about the most popular children's gadgets. According to the research, the most popular gadgets for children are smartphones (64%), tablets (30%), smart speakers (21%), children's watches with SIM cards (18%), smart cameras or baby monitors (6%).
