Russian Foreign Ministry calls temporary truce in Ukraine conflict unacceptable
A temporary truce or freezing of the conflict in Ukraine is unacceptable. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said this on 6 February.
"A temporary truce or, as many say, a freeze of the conflict is unacceptable," she said at a briefing.
She said the West could use the potential temporary suspension of hostilities to strengthen Ukraine's military capabilities and attempt "armed military revenge."
Zakharova noted that Russia needs "reliable, legally binding agreements and mechanisms that would guarantee the prevention of a resumption of the crisis."
Earlier in the day, Bloomberg news agency reported that US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg will present a plan for conflict resolution created by the head of state at the Munich Security Conference. According to the agency, a potential freezing of the conflict is among the possible options. The conference will be held from February 14 to 16.
Before that, on February 4, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the alliance had prepared secret tactics for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Ukraine. At the same time, he added that the West should provide Kiev with the best possible position by providing it with weapons and training for Ukrainian soldiers.
The last round of talks between Russia and Ukraine took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow. On October 4, 2022, the Ukrainian president put into effect the decision of the country's National Security and Defense Council on the impossibility of holding talks with Putin.
