Patrushev urged to accelerate the pace of construction of waste treatment facilities

The pace of construction of solid municipal waste treatment facilities should be increased. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev on February 6.

He said that the implementation of the federal project "Closed Cycle Economy" was launched in 2025. According to him, in 2024, facilities with an aggregate capacity of more than 4 million tons were introduced in solid municipal waste management.

"The scale and pace of construction should only increase, citizens should see qualitative changes in the sphere of waste management - strict compliance with the removal schedule and modern facilities for their processing," Patrushev said at the meeting in the "incident" format on "Organization of the system for solid municipal waste management", which was attended by representatives of relevant agencies and heads of regions.

The event also discussed the development of the legislative framework in the sphere of waste management, the implementation of roadmaps for the creation of infrastructure, the purchase of sanitary ware, containers and the installation of waste accumulation sites.

The participants of the meeting presented measures to improve the quality of the regions' work with waste. The public legal company "Russian Ecological Operator" will form methodological recommendations based on them.

The Ministry of Nature of the Russian Federation and the "Russian Ecological Operator" were instructed to provide the Russian Government with a plan to ensure digital control over the sphere of waste management.

Earlier, on January 30, the Russian Ecological Operator (REO) informed Izvestia that regional solid waste management operators will be obliged to arrange container sites and keep them clean.

In December 2024, REO made a proposal to oblige drivers of garbage trucks to photograph container sites after waste collection. This will allow to observe in real time the systematicity of waste removal and the quality of cleaning of container sites.

Before that, on December 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that 242 objects of accumulated environmental damage were eliminated in Russia within the framework of the national project "Ecology". This number included 157 large landfills.
