Kaliningrad Oblast power system will start operating autonomously from February 8

The energy complex of Kaliningrad region will switch to an autonomous mode of operation, tentatively, from February 8. This was announced by the authorities of the region on February 6.

"The transfer of the energy complex to an autonomous mode of operation is tentatively scheduled for February 8 because of the exit of the Baltic States from the BRELL ring - Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia," - stated in the Telegram-channel of the government of the Kaliningrad region.

Thus, the Baltic States are transitioning to connection to the European Union (EU) network.

Currently, Kaliningradskaya TPP-2 (combined heat and power plant) and four combined heat and power plants (CHPPs) are involved in the region: Mayakovskaya, Talakhovskaya, Pregolskaya and Primorskaya, the authorities specified. The length of power grids is more than 19 thousand kilometers.

Earlier, on January 13, Igor Ananskikh, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy, said in a conversation with Izvestia that, in his opinion, the restoration of electricity exports from Russia to the EU countries is possible in the foreseeable future. He reminded that Russian electricity is the cheapest, and for the Baltic States and Finland the cost of electricity from the Russian Federation is the most optimal.

Electricity supplies to a number of EU countries have been suspended since spring 2022 due to the impossibility of monetary settlements in connection with the imposed sanctions.
