Resident of Kherson region sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for financing the AFU
The Kherson regional court has sentenced a local resident to 12 years and 6 months in a strict regime colony for financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported by the press service of the Russian Federal Security Service for the region on February 6.
It is established that the defendant in the period from December 2022 to May 2023 transferred funds to the needs of the Ukrainian army. Against the man initiated a criminal case under article 275 of the Criminal Code of Russia "High treason".
"Taking into account the opinion of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced the defendant to 12 years 6 months of imprisonment with serving his sentence in a penal colony of strict regime. As an additional punishment he was assigned a fine of 350 thousand rubles," - stated in the message of the department.
Earlier, December 16, 2024, the military court sentenced to 19 years in prison Vasily Zharkov, accused of state treason, participation in the terrorist organization "Russian Freedom Legion" (recognized as a terrorist and banned in Russia) and in the preparation of sabotage at strategic facilities in the Moscow region. The convict himself did not admit guilt, and his lawyer explained his client's actions by "hormonal failure due to the lack of love relationships" - such a position of the defense caused great surprise to the relatives and loved ones of the defendant.
