The sanctions against three Crimean museums and the director-general of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovskyy imposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose powers expired last May, cannot harm Russia. This was pointed out by State Duma deputy Mikhail Sheremet on February 6.

According to the decree published on Zelensky's website, the Chersonesos Tavrichesky historical and archaeological museum-reserve, the Central Museum of Tavrida and the Eastern Crimean Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve fell under the sanctions.

"There is absolutely no way to harm [these sanctions]. <...> Nothing surprising here, this is a Nazi and a traitor to the people, who purposefully does this to please his overseas masters, who have not lost hope, despite Zelensky's plight, to still harm and somehow aggravate the situation of Russia," Duma TV's Duma TV quoted Sheremet's commentary for Izvestia.

Currently, the politician emphasized, Zelensky is trying to dismantle his nation's past and twist history in order to tear his people away from the origins that bind them to Russia.

Crimean sites are often subject to sanctions. For example, in July, Switzerland imposed restrictions on the Artek International Children's Center, which allegedly materially supports actions that "undermine and threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine." Political scientist Viktoriya Fedosova spoke to Izvestia and called the sanctions ridiculous and absurd.

Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 after a referendum in which the majority of the peninsula's residents voted in favor of reunification with the Russian Federation. Kiev refuses to recognize the results of the vote and considers Crimea its territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the peninsula's residents voted for reunification in a democratic way and in full compliance with international law, and the question of the peninsula's belonging is closed definitively.
